Matt Mahoney Named To Team of the Week for Week 2

Colorado Springs, CO (March 19th, 2024) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and the USL Championship officially announced today that Matt Mahoney has been named to the Team of the Week for week 2 of the 2024 season, presented by Konami eFootball.

Matt Mahoney played an impressive game last Saturday against Detroit City FC. This defender won 7 of 8 duels overall and one tackle while making seven clearances, three interceptions, and eight recoveries. This Switchbacks Captain also scored the first goal of the 2024 Switchbacks FC regular season. In the 47′, Mahoney tipped the ball right over the line thanks to a clean pass from #99 Maalique Foster.

With a full season ahead of them the Switchbacks head to San Antonio next Saturday and then will be back at Weidner Field on April 6th against Sacramento. For tickets to that match, and all others, head HERE.

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC Announce Full 2022 Schedule

(Colorado Springs, CO – January 12th, 2022) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today the full schedule for the 2022 season. The team will play 34 regular season games, 17 home and 17 away. The home opener will be held Saturday March 12th, as the Switchbacks FC take on the 2021 USL Championship reigning champions, Orange County SC.

Switchbacks FC Forward Hadji Barry Named USL Championship's Most Valuable Player for 2021

Barry has had an incredible season with the Switchbacks, resulting in being awarded the Golden Boot Award this season as well as being named to the USL Championship's All League First Team. With 25 goals to his 2021 record, he has tied the all time league record for most goals in a single season. Barry additionally notched 5 assists during the season, and averaged a goal every 115 minutes. Barry was instrumental in helping lead the Switchbacks to a playoff position and played in every game the Switchbacks had this season – coming in at 2,783 minutes.

"It really has been a great year playing for the Switchbacks and going to work every day with my teammates and coaching staff" said Barry when asked about the MVP announcement, "and I just want to thank [Coach] Brendan Burke a lot because he really has put a lot of faith and belief in me from the first day I arrived here and that really brought a different level of confidence in me with going into games and helping me perform at a high level. And a big thank you also to my teammates who go to battle every night with me and put me in great position to really succeed. I just want to take this time to really thank them all for all their contribution into the successful year that I’ve had."

President Nick Ragain spoke about how Barry's inspiring play style has drawn together a community of sports fans: "Fortune favors the bold, and bold perfectly describes Hadji's performance this year. His attacking play has drawn new fans to the sport and inspired this community."

Our style of play is exciting, the fans bring great energy to the stadium and Hadji, because of his diverse skill set as an attacking player, is very well suited to carry out our style of play." When asked about the legacy Hadji is creating with the Switchbacks, Coach Burke continued, "I have no doubt that Hadji will enter the all time top five in scoring and hopefully the top three. He has plenty of time to do it. He works with urgency every week, and we are significantly increasing the strength of the team around him and the staff that will work with him this off season."

Switchbacks FC Head Coach Brendan Burke was also named as a finalist for the USL Championship Coach of the Year Award.

With a USL Championship record-tying 25 goals, and a 30.5% shot conversion rate, forward Hadji Barry made an indelible impact on the Switchbacks FC team this season. Barry made an appearance in all 32 games of the 2021 season, and leads the team in minutes played at 2,783.

Barry spoke about the honor of being nominated for this award and his thankfulness on his season being acknowledged in such a way: "With so many great and talented players in this league, I am honored to and thankful to be named one of the three finalists for such a prestigious award."

Head Coach Brendan Burke was also named a finalist for the USL Championship Awards, as Head Coach of the Year. His inaugural season with the Switchbacks FC team, Burke created a high energy team at our new downtown location. Ending the regular season ranked third in the Championship with 60 goals, Burke's leadership helped the team nearly double it's point total from 2019 as he led them to a postseason position.

The Guinean forward is currently on 21 goals in his pursuit of the Golden Boot and the Championship's single-season scoring record of 25 goals, set by Louisville City FC forward Cameron Lancaster during the 2018 season. With 10 games to go in the regular season, Barry is just five goals short of setting the new record while helping the Switchbacks earn a playoff berth in the Mountain Division.

"This definitely has to be one of my best seasons of my whole career playing football. I'm so thankful to be a part of the Switchbacks," Barry told the USL Championship. "The coaching staff all really believe in me and that motivates me going onto the field to do what I do best and try to help the team succeed."

In two road games, Barry scored three goals and completed 70 of 87 passes to propel the Switchbacks into second place in the Mountain Division with a 5-2 win on Saturday night and a 1-1 draw on August 10th.

In two road games, Barry scored three goals and completed 70 of 87 passes to propel the Switchbacks into second place in the Mountain Division with a 5-2 win on Saturday night and a 1-1 draw on August 10th.

This is Barry’s 4th time being selected to the USL Championship’s Team of the Week during the 2021 season so far.
