Colorado Springs, CO (June 15th, 2024) – The Switchbacks dominated tonight’s match against Orange County SC, and ended with a score of 4-2.
The Switchbacks came out strong in the first half with 10 shots on goal, three on target, and lead with 60.9% in possession. #20 Yosuke Hanya had a rocket of a goal to start the night. In the 19′ from about 25 yards out he was able to find the bottom left corner of the net.
Orange County came out in the second half ready to compete with the Switchback’s energy. Orange County’s #11 Bryce Jamison responded with two goals. Jamison’s first goal was in the 41′ from beyond the six-yard box and went straight into the back left corner of the COS’ net. In the 61′, Jamison had a quick touch on the ball right in the middle of the six-yard box, tipping it into the right bottom corner.
With Orange County up ahead, the Switchbacks knew that the battle was on. In the 63′, #99 Maalique Foster carried the ball towards Orange County’s box, weaving in and out through opposing defenders. With his quick feet, Foster was able get in the middle of the box, skipping the ball to the far left side, securing his first goal of the 2024 season.
As the game was getting closer to the final whistle, Hanya found another goal opportunity in the 82′. #17 Jairo Henriquez crossed the ball over to the left, but was blocked by Orange County. With the defender trying to get it out of the box, Hanya capitalized on the pass, bringing it closer, stricking it in the top right, giving the Switchback another win ending with a score of 4-2.
The Switchbacks have a two-game road trip with Las Vegas Lights on Tuesday, June 18th, and New Mexico United on Saturday, June 22nd.
