COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec, 14th, 2023) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced that they have signed forward Alex Andersson, from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
“I’m honored to be joining Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. I’ve worked hard to earn this opportunity and will continue to challenge myself even further,” said Andersson. “I’m buzzing and can’t wait to play in front of the fans and achieve something special together.”
Andersson, 23, made a heavy impact on the pitch throughout his four years playing for the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs racking up a total of 2,749 minutes earning 25 goals and 9 assists.
This forward formed an impressive list of achievements throughout his college career. His freshman year he was named to RMAC Freshman of the Year and to the RMAC Second Team. In his second season, Andersson was rightfully named RMAC Player of the Year and found a spot on the All-RMAC First Team and RMAC All-Academic First Team. Then in his junior year, he was named to the RMAC All-Tournament Team and the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.
In this current year, Andersson was named to the All-RMAC First Team and United Soccer Coaches All-South Central Region Team. During the summer of 2023, Andersson played in USL League 2 with Asheville City FC, earning five goals in 10 games.
“Alex is a young and hungry player who has proven himself at the college level with UCCS and USL League 2 with Asheville City,” said Technical Director & Assistant Coach, James Chambers. “It is clear that he has a desire to continue to develop and we are excited to watch him grow. His mentality and personality will only grow and enhance the quality of the group.”
