COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec, 5th, 2023) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that Christian Herrera has resigned and would be returning for the 2024 season, pending league and federation approval.
“I’m very excited to be back for this upcoming season. 2023 was a year of learning lessons and I’m ready to apply what I’ve learned,” said Herrera. “Weidner Field is probably the best environment to play in the USL and I believe we have the best fans in the league that deserve a trophy. I’m looking forward to going after it again in 2024!”
Herrera, 26, is going into his third season with the Switchbacks. For the 2023 season, Herrera stepped up as the lead goalkeeper making 27 appearances with 82 saves, 10 clean sheets, and 20 clearances.
This Goalkeeper made his professional debut in 2016 playing on a loan to C.F. Pachuca, then the following year was sent to play on a different loan to Portland Timbers II. In 2018 he was signed to the MLS Pro next team, Swope Park Rangers. Throughout 2019-2021, we played for Orlando City B, Tacoma Defiance, and the Oakland Roots.
“Having Christian return for 2024 is fantastic news for the club,” said Technical Director & Assistant Coach, James Chambers. “His mentality is second to none and he is a big presence in the locker room. He has shown a lot of growth this season and will continue to develop with another year of experience under his belt. “
