
Colorado Springs Switchbacks Dominate Sacramento Republic With A 2-0 Win
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO (September 23rd, 2023) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks dominated Sacramento Republic FC at Weidner Field with a final score of 2-0.
Going into this match, the Switchbacks knew that Sacramento Republic was a challenging team to go against because they currently sit in first place for the Western Conference. With the team controlling 50.6% off the ball in the first half and having six shots on target, the boys were packing the heat.
In the 29′, #80 Speedy Williams had created space between Sacramento’s defenders and swiftly passed the ball to #9 Romario Williams. R Williams found an opening right outside the 18′ and rocketed the ball calmly into the top right corner of the net.
With the boys in black and blue holding the lead throughout the first half, the pressure was on and the boys did not disappoint. In the 90+2′, #17 Jairo Henriquez was cornered in between two defenders and was able to calmly control the ball upwards to give more room between the opposing team. Henriquez shot a bicycle kick sending the ball forcefully through the net.
With the Switchbacks holding a three-game winning streak, it’s precedent for the boys to keep fighting to secure a playoff spot and a chance at a home-game advantage.
