Colorado Springs, CO (March 18, 2017) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC defeated Harpo's FC Saturday night to finish their preseason undefeated.
Kevaughn Frater put the Switchbacks up 1-0 in the 2nd minute as Chris James broke down the left side to find Frater who headed it in from about six yards out. The teams would battle back and forth for the bulk of the first half with each team having multiple opportunities but neither capitalizing on them. The Switchbacks earned a free kick just before the end of the second half that Chris James played to Shane Malcolm from the right side who doubled the Switchbacks lead from a header. The Switchbacks would take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Switchbacks continued to prove that they were the better side as the second half progressed. Chris James tallied his third assist of the night playing a ball to Masta Kacher in the box who curled one into the top right corner. The Harpo's got a few chances with one coming just inches wide of the post from a header. The Switchbacks made a handful of substitutions in the final 15 minutes, one of whom was Park who came on and scored in the 87th minute to give the Switchbacks the 4-0 lead to finish the game.
"There were a lot of positives from out last friendly before the season," said Chris James. "There are some elements that we need to improve on and get ready for our season opener next week."
"It was a good exercise for us today," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "We're scoring goals and not giving up balls, we've got to take this into Tulsa."
The Switchbacks will kickoff their 2017 USL regular season with a trip to Tulsa, to take on the Roughnecks on March 25th at 6:00 PM MT. Join the Switchbacks and Trailheads at Jack Quinn's for the official watch party! The Switchbacks will return to Weidner Field on Saturday, April 1st at 6:00 PM against Oklahoma City Energy FC!
