Colorado Springs, CO (July 20, 2016) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC officially announced today the acquisition of Colorado Rapids forward Conor Doyle on loan through the remainder of the 2016 season.
Doyle originally committed to Creighton but signed a professional deal with Derby County of the English Championship before playing any competitive matches for the Bluejays. He had 22 appearances at Derby County, including appearances in the English FA Cup before returning to the United States in 2013.
“We are happy to add Conor to our roster,” said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. “He has a lot of MLS experience and a good nose for the goal. He will be a great addition to our pursuit for the USL Championship.”
In July 2013, Doyle was linked with Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids for a six-month loan, however the MLS rules on player registrations complicated the move and he signed with D.C. United after becoming eligible in the second half of the MLS season. He had 42 appearances with D.C. including a US Open Cup title and was featured in the CONCACAF Champions league for two seasons. Doyle was traded to the Colorado Rapids on February 9, 2016 this season. He has made three appearances for the Denver club.
Doyle also represented the United States national team at the U-20 and U-23 levels in addition to representing the Republic of Ireland U-21 national team. Doyle was eligible for the Irish national team through his father who is Irish-born. Per MLS and USL policy, terms of the loan were not released.
