(March 15, 2016 – Ventura County, CA.) The Colorado Springs Switchbacks won their 6th straight preseason match by defeating the USL PDL side Ventura County Fusion 0-4 in a Tuesday night match-up for the first of a three-game road trip to southern California.
Coming off a 3-2 victory against the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions, the Switchbacks wanted to come out more intensely and get a better result against Ventura County. A couple of chances in the first half led to Aaron King finishing an open play shot from 12 yards out 32nd minute to give the Switchbacks a 1-0 lead. Saeed Robinson would then chip the Ventura County keeper from the left side to double the lead for the Switchbacks heading into halftime.
It would only take five minutes into the second half for Nate Robinson to finish from six yards out following the cross to give the Switchbacks a 3-0 lead. Ventura County nearly got one back in the 76th minute but Auggie Andrade’s bicycle kick was saved by Dan Jackson. Luke Vercollone would find the back of the net once again this preseason in the 80th minute to put the Switchbacks up 4-0 where the score would remain.
“We had a very solid game on both sides of the ball.” Head Coach Steve Trittschuh said following the win. “Ventura Fusion are a quality side and the players came out and had a good professional attitude and stayed focused the entire game. This match is another step in our preparations for the season.”
The Switchbacks will look to improve upon their perfect preseason as they face USL Western Conference foes Orange County Blues on Friday at 2 p.m. MDT and the LA Galaxy II on Saturday at 1 p.m. MDT to complete their preseason
