COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec 15th, 2023) – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that Speedy Williams would be returning for the 2024 season, pending league and federation approval.
“A lot of changes are being made and I’m eager to see how we put it all together,” said Williams about his return.
Williams was signed back with the Switchbacks in December of 2022. With 2023 being his first season with the team, Williams played in 35 games, earned 4 assists, won 105 duals, made 39 key passes, and held a passing accuracy of 84.2%.
This midfielder started his professional soccer career with the USL Championship playing for New York Red Bulls II, Louisville City FC, and Miami FC earning 14 goals and 10 assists. While he was with the New York Bulls II, he helped the team win the USL Champion Cup and Regular Season Champion Cup in 2016. Then the next two years, won the USL Cup Champion with Louisville City FC.
This Kingston, Jamaica native has made 36 appearances for the National Senior Jamaica team in his career, having appeared at two editions of the CONCACAF Gold Cup with the squad while recording one goal and one assist.
“Speedy was a huge part of our good form at the end of the season. He shows fantastic leadership and professionalism on a daily basis,” said Technical Director & Assistant Coach, James Chambers. “He is highly thought of and respected within the league and we are delighted to have him within our core. His experience is invaluable and he will use that to help us push the group on in 2024.”
