Colorado Springs, CO (November 22, 2016) – The Switchbacks would like to welcome back defender Josh Phillips for the 2017 season (pending league and USSF approval)! With this 3rd addition to the defense, the Switchbacks are shaping up to have another phenomenal year of shutouts.
Phillips was a four-year starter (2010-2013) at Gonzaga University, where he helped the team to its first 10-win season since 2000. While there, he was named West Coast Conference Defender Of The Year and third-team All-Far West region as a senior in 2013.
After college, Phillips spent three seasons in the PDL. Most recently, he played for FC Tucson (2014), and before that with the Seattle Sounders U23s (2013) and the Washington Crossfire (2011-2012). Josh trained with the Sounders Reserves and played in their last reserve-league game versus the Colorado Rapids. This past January, he was given the opportunity to train with the New England Revolution and appeared as a substitute in three pre-season matches against the San Jose Earthquakes, FC Dallas and Vancouver Whitecaps of the MLS.
Josh signed on with the Switchbacks for the inaugural 2015 season in which he coincidentally played 2015 minutes. For that season he had 1 goal, 2 points, and 9 fouls. With his solid defensive performance, he was on his way to having an even better 2016 season.

Sadly, in the 9th match against the OC Blues this past season, Josh had an untimely upper body injury. This mishap caused him to miss 2 1/2 months of regular season matches. He was only able to get 1573 minutes of playing time and it was a big hit for the team. But given time, injuries will heal and teams will recover.
The Switchbacks are excited to see another top player like Josh Phillips return to the franchise! 2017 is going to be another record breaking season.
